ADVANCED PLACEMENT COURSES
By Carl Seefried, Ph.D.
The Advanced Placement Program is administered by The College Board and provides the opportunity for secondary school students to demonstrate their ability to perform at a college level. National examinations in 22 subject areas give students the potential to earn credit or advanced standing at most of the nations' colleges and universities. During the 2005-2006 academic year, 12 juniors and seniors (43% of the two classes) participated in 7 different Advanced Placement courses, with several in more than one course. They took 22 examinations and received grades of 4 or 5 (examination scores range from 1-5 with 5 being the highest grade) on 47% of their examinations. The School's offering of Advanced Placement courses has been increasing significantly for each of the past few years.
