Social Activities

After a busy academic week, students have the opportunity to relax and socialize on campus or with their peers from neighboring single sex boarding schools. On Saturday nights Woodhall schedules an off-campus activity. Often on the weekends Woodhall students participate in dances and other social events with all-girls boarding schools, such as Westover, Miss Porter's, Ethel Walker, Miss Hall's, Emma Willard, and Stoneleigh-Burnham.

During the year, Woodhall organizes outings for sporting events throughout Connecticut such as the Bridgeport Bluefish or New Britain Rock Cats (minor league baseball), the Hartford Wolf Pack or Bridgeport Sound Tigers (AHL hockey), or collegiate lacrosse and hockey games at Yale University. Also, students travel to New Haven, Hartford, and New York City for cultural events, museums, and theater. In the Winter Term Woodhall offers Sunday ski and snowboarding trips to Butternut Ski Area in Great Barrington, MA. Each year the entire Woodhall community anticipates the New York City trip, which includes sightseeing, a Broadway show, and dinner.

Students in good standing may go off-campus to bike or walk into town for dinner at one of the restaurants, shopping at Sunny Ridge supermarket, the Towne Apothecary, or March Farms. In Bethlehem as well, students can play tennis at the town courts, hike in the Bethlehem Land Trust properities, and swim at the Long Meadow Pond town beach.

At times, students prefer to stay on campus to watch a movie on the big screen in the Abigail J. Woodhall Theatre, swim or fish at the pond, shoot hoops in the gym or the outdoor basketball court, have a cookout at the Class of 2009 grill, or sit by a camp fire on "Mount Woodhall." Throughout the year students and teachers enjoy Woodhall traditions - Fall and Spring Community Day, Ping-Pong tournaments, the French Dorm bottle and can cookout, campus-wide Capture-the-Flag and the Wooden Chef Competition.
